Tailor-made Trojans

Recently, there is a Russian web site discovered that sells a spyware kit, called WebAttacker, for a price of approximately RM 80+. This site, which refers to it’s creators as “spyware and adware developers”, markets the kits by strength and sells them online, along with technical support for buyers.

Included in the kits are scripts desgined to simplify the task of infecting computers – the buyer need only spam out a message to email addresses, inviting recipients to visit a compromised web site.

Samples found in Sophos’s network of monitoring stations use newsworthy topics to lure unwary users. One presents itself as warning of the H5N1 bird flu virus, providing links to the bogus site. Another claims that Slobodan Milosevic was murdered and invites users to visit the site for more information. These sites then attempt to download the malicious code remotely on to the user’s PC by taking advantage of known browser and operating system vulnerabilities.

“This type of behaviour is inviting the return of script-kiddies,” said Carole Theriault, senior security consultant at Sophos. “By simplifying the task of the potential hacker for a mere tenner, sites like this one will attract opportunists who aren’t necessarily very skilled and turn them into cyber criminals.”

JavaScript code on the infected sites detects the visiting computer’s browser version and operating system, including any installed patches, and launches the most appropriate exploit, which then downloads a program that attempts to turn off the firewall and install malware, generally a password stealer, keylogger or a banking trojan.

Here are the photos for KL International MotorShow 2006. I forgot almost all of the cars’ model, so I don’t give descriptions to the photos. Sorry about that.

Farewell…

To you, Chih Thir,

It’s sad and disappointed to know that one of my best friends really cannot make it to the advanced diploma year. I don’t know what he’s going to do and where he’s going to…But I hope he’ll have a better life.

We’ve been coursemates for two years; we’ll always be together to discuss computer games, programming, etc.

Sometimes he’s talkative but sometimes he’s quiet, he’ll just sit around us and listen.

Anyway, I do hope in the future we’ll have chances to see him more often or at least chat with him online more often because I’ll definitely miss him often.

Well, an event that you would expect to see great cars, crowded people and of course, pretty and sexy Show Girl.

I attended this great show on last weekend. It’s really an unforgettable experience (hm..like some kind of primary school composition?) since this is the first time I went to see a MotorShow.
I’ve taken some photos of cars and the show girls. But in the end when I came to the “VIP” cars exhibition hall, my phone went out of battery…So, I missed some valuable photos of Ferrarri, Porche, Mercedez Benz, BMW etc.
I’m considering to share my photos somewhere else so that everyone can view it (although there are professionals that already uploaded their photos). I’ll update this post after I uploaded my photos.

A New College Life

June 10, 2006 at 10:29 am | Posted in College Life | 4 Comments

Advanced diploma course has just started. Some of the lectures are almost the same – lecturer teaches, students absorb; but some of the lectures are different – we have to do research in order to learn.

I like this kind of study method. I’m not the type of students that will attend all the lectures to learn, I like to learn myself. So, I always absent for my lectures and stay at home to study. That’s my style of learning.

Our college’s students are just too reliable on the lecture notes given by lecturers. Not to say I’m not among them, but I think we should start to learn how to prepare our own lecture notes since we’re already in the second level of the college education.

It’s happy to know that I graduated in distinction for my Diploma in Science major in Computer Science and Management Mathematics (it’s a double major course). It’s sad to know that one of my best friend couldn’t make it to the advanced year.

Now, it’ll only left 9 students in my course. Yes, 9. However, I wish 9 of us can successfully completed our advanced diploma course as well as the degree.

There are some “big” event for our advanced year. For example, a project on Computer Science subjects that we have to work as a group and a Mathematics seminar, which is an individual assignment. Although project and seminar will be occured next year, we have to start planning for them.

Few days ago, one of my lecturers told me about the Microsoft Student Ambassador program. Every year, three students will be selected to represent our college to become the MSA. Honestly speaking, I’m very interested on this program. I wish I could have a chance to learn more from Microsoft. Apart from that, I wish I could learn more and explore more on the Computer Science field.

Anyway, my new college life has just started. Hope that everything will be under control.

Let’s just pray.
